One week of hair

Edited at 5:00pm, found another photo I failed to attach!

So here is the story.....

On Saturday 11-22-08 I will be cutting my hair

organization that donates hair for children's hair pieces for those who are not able to afford to purchase a hair piece themselves. You must donate a 10 inch "ponytail" in order for their to be enough to make the sizes needed. As you can see, I have the required amount of hair.

I have chosen this date, 11-22-08 as my donation day for a couple reasons.

First, it is my mother-in-law Gwen's birthday, but it is also the day she died. Gwen suffered and lost the battle with breast cancer. Gwen has a couple wigs and always commented about them. I felt donating on this day, in her honor, would make it double-special.

But, it is triple special. My father, John, was diagnosed with lung cancer just a couple months ago. His birthday is ALSO 11-22 and in his honor, I also will donate for him.

But, this is me today, Monday 11-17-08! And for a few more day, I have to wash and dry all this hair. My emotions are slightly mixed about the whole process.

My husband mentioned my hair was like "Crème brûlée" this weekend....that is his FAVORITE dessert. My girls say they won't know me! I say, it has taken me all this time to grow it and figure out how to fix it....now I will have to re-learn.

But, you know the bottom line....someone, maybe even as many as three children, will have hair. Beautiful, healthy, "Crème brûlée" hair where they would otherwise not have any. It is winter, their little heads are cold and I can make them warm....and I can warm their hearts at the same time.

So, if you have a long ponytail....consider it....your will grow back and you might even want to do it again, that is my plan.

I admire you so much for this.

My hair won't grow past my shoulders, no matter how long I go without getting it cut (even a healthy trim).

Your hair is gorgeous. But you are even more gorgeous, and you will look great with a short, trendy "do". I can't wait to see it!

I'm always so amazed (and a bit jealous) when I hear the LOL storied from you long-haired girls. I would get too impatient trying to wait for mine to grow out!

you are amazing! I can't even tell you what a wonderful thing you are doing!! And...you have absolutely beautiful hair! You are going to make someone feel so beautiful, give them the strength and courage to keep on fighting.

You really did just make my day and I am so honored to be your bloggy friend!

Actually, Bryan and I were just talking about you the other night and are going to be sending you a little something to thank you for being such a great supporter of our new business.

I am so sorry that Cancer has been such a part of your life. Its a terrible disease. Would you mind me posting something about your donating your hair on my I Kicked cancer's Ass blog? I think it might encourage others to do the same!

I can't say it enough: You Are An Incredible Person :)

xoxo

My daughter did that a few months ago and was so happy. They sent her a letter of thanks and everything, but it was donated to a local group here in Michigan. I think that is awesome, and it will always grow back. I love that you are doing it on such an important date too. So meaniful!

I think that is so cool that you decided to do this! What a great idea!

I once had my hair that long if not longer. Mike LOVED it. He just saw your post and said real innocent.."you should do that for Locks of lOve too!" Yeah, right! He just wants my long hair back:)

Good luck on 11/22 I sure your family will love the new 'do.

Can you give us some tips on how you kept it looking so good? About 6 months ago I made the decision to grow my hair out, to donate, as well. Its slow going. Any tips on keeping healthy during the process would be very much appreciated!!

My main tips are this...I do not color my hair. I get it trimmed every 8-10 weeks, just a tiny trim. I do not blow dry unless I just must....maybe once a week at most adn finally, I wear a braid or ponytail almost all the time and use clips or rubberbands that will not break my hair.....oh, and I only wash it every other day and condition every time, just grocery store type products. Hope this helps!!

My hair is down to my waist at this point. I cut it short (TOO short for me) 3 1/2 years ago and donated it to LOL. I hadn't wanted it that short, but it was a bad stylist. It was traumatic for me, especially my husband's reaction.

IF I decide to cut it again (and I'm not ready yet, but will be eventually, I'm sure), I'll probably donate it again.

I also only wash it every 2-3 days and use a blow dryer so rarely I couldn't tell you where mine is!

Your hair is beautiful. I think the after pictures might make me cry!

Your hair looks just like mine!! Long straight and blonde.

Mine is above my shoulders now, but I've donated it to Locks of Love 3 times and it's such a great feeling.

Good for you!!

Regarding the Blogger Ornament Exchange, it's closed for new sign ups. :( It closed Oct. 25. But we have plans to do it again next year and I think it will be even bigger so please join in!

Catherine I am SO impressed. How wonderful. Hope you are doing well and good luck on Saturday! I had a friend that did LOL and she said it was bittersweet- learning to love her unusually long hair and letting it go knowing how much it will help others. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh your hair, is so pretty! Good for you, for donating it. A friend of mine does that every year as her hair grows fast.
Be sure to post an after picture tomorrow!
